Joint expedition

I'm back in the concrete jungle that is my home. For this trip I teamed up with Robert Bagshaw, who has a YouTube channel with clips of many of his own expeditions over the last six or so years.

Amazing encounter - possible audio recording

We had an amazing animal encounter and we believe we may have the first audio recordings of the Tasmanian tiger.

Over a period of considerable time we heard a yipping call from close to camp on several occasions.

Audio evaluated by Wildlife Biologist Nick Mooney

We have had the recording evaluated by wildlife biologist Nick Mooney who said the call is not anything he has ever heard before, in Tasmania or on the mainland, and that it was a good quality recording.

We were able to dismiss fox, dog, all Tasmanian mammals and Tasmanian frogs.

Further evaluation under way

We will continue our research into the call by making aural and spectrogram comparisons with any Tasmanian species - in particular birds - that could possibly have come close. From our investigations to this point, it would have to be an unknown species of bird, or a known species exhibiting undocumented behaviour, but, quite simply, it sounds exactly like the Tasmanian tiger exhibiting its hunting bark as documented by Col Bailey in his recounting of "old timers'" stories and Col Bailey's own thylacine sighting.

It was a call that Rob had never heard but in one instance matched the call I had heard almost four years prior.

Until our investigation is complete, these are all the details we will release.

Updated information regarding audio recording

Updated information regarding our investigation will be published under Audio recordings of the Tasmanian tiger.

Thank you

I'd like to thank those who supported me financially on this trip, Rob for the offer to drive me around and team up for the first few days of his own expedition and my family for their support.
